Dr. Chetan Singh's research covers reactive and energetic metal powders, ultracryogenic mechanical behavior, lightweight metallic materials (Mg and Al alloys), and mechanism-based alloy design. The long-term aim is to connect synthesis, processing, microstructural evolution, and performance across length scales.
He completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2022) under Prof. Jayant Jain. His thesis — funded through the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF), awarded to fewer than 1% of applicants nationwide — developed novel Mg–Ca–Sc alloys as biodegradable implant materials. He was subsequently a Postdoctoral Researcher at Chungnam National University, Republic of Korea (2023–2024), and an Assistant Research Scientist at the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute, Johns Hopkins University (2024–2026), before joining IIT Kharagpur as Assistant Professor in 2026.

The IIT Kharagpur group is actively forming. We are recruiting motivated PhD students, M.Tech/B.Tech project students, and postdoctoral researchers with backgrounds in metallurgical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or physics.
